The Role

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for utilising advanced data science and machine learning techniques to design, develop and implement solutions that drive business growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, mathematics and computer science, as well as experience working with large data sets and various analytical tools.
  
As an experienced Data Scientist, you will be leading data-driven proposal narratives, managing and coordinating Data Science projects, developing, and implementing Data Science solutions, providing consultation services, conducting market analysis and fostering employee development. The Senior Data Scientist will also play a key role in promoting the organisation’s proficiency in data sciences through industry participation.
  
Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of compelling data-driven proposal narratives and cost estimates to effectively communicate the value of our services to prospective clients.
• Manage and coordinate data science related tasks for internal and external client projects and work streams.
• Develop and enhance techniques and technology while actively contributing to industry standards within the field of data.
• Demonstrate the organisation’s proficiency in data sciences through participation in industry conferences and workshops.
• Develop, implement and standardise data science solutions.
• Utilise advanced data science and machine learning techniques to design, develop and implement proof-of-concepts and prototypes for various projects.
• Provide consultation services to both external and internal clients regarding matters pertaining to data science.
• Conduct a thorough analysis of the market to identify potential new and innovative approaches.
• Facilitate the cultivation of employee potential and the organisation of necessary training materials.
• Promote the sharing and dissemination of data expertise within the organisation.

  
Qualifications

• PhD or master’s degree that reflects strong modelling, statistics and IT skills
• 5+ years of work experience
• Expert knowledge of analytic programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and the respective tool ecosystems (e.g., R-Studio Server, Zeppelin, Jupyter)
• Solid skills working in big data environments (e.g., Cloudera Hadoop, Hortonworks Data Platform, AWS EMR, Map/Reduce, Hive)
• Expert knowledge of the constantly evolving data science ecosystem and its frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark MLlib, H2O, Tensorflow, Torch, Theano)
• Basic skills in performance optimisation and scalability (e.g., parallelisation, code optimisation, containerisation, function as a service)
• Expert skills around database handling, in particular SQL, NoSQL
• Expert statistical modelling skills (e.g, predictive models)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to develop innovative solutions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Proven experience leading data science projects and mentoring junior team members.
• Experience with consumer research, market research, or media research is a plus.
