Our client is a global social research and evaluation consultancy that partners closely with government and public sector organisations to improve policy, programs, and communications. Their work spans critical national issues including mental health, education, social inclusion, climate, and community wellbeing. With a multidisciplinary team of researchers, behavioural specialists, and evaluation experts, they deliver robust, evidence-based insights that inform decision-making at the highest levels. Their Australian practice continues to grow, with NSW being a key strategic focus.

The Role
This is a senior leadership position within NSW, reporting directly to the CEO. You will lead a team, oversee major research programs, and play a key role in strengthening government partnerships and expanding the practice.

  • Lead and mentor a team of around ten professionals across the business.
  • Lead and mentor a team of researchers, fostering capability development and high performance
  • Design and oversee complex, large-scale quantitative research and data collection evaluations
  • Develop compelling proposals and contribute to winning new public sector work
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government stakeholders and key clients
  • Provide strategic oversight across major ongoing research programs
  • Drive innovation in research methodologies, tools, and data collection approaches
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and operational efficiency
  • Support organisational initiatives and contribute to leadership team priorities
  • Ensure quality standards, governance, and best practice research delivery
About You
You are an experienced research leader who thrives on complexity, with a strong background in quantitative social research and a passion for delivering meaningful, impactful work. You enjoy leading teams, engaging with senior stakeholders, and contributing strategically to organisational growth.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in a Research Director or equivalent leadership role within social or public sector research
  • Strong track record delivering large-scale quantitative evaluation projects, particularly within NSW
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience developing proposals and contributing to business growth
  • Confidence in presenting at industry events and forums
  • Established relationships within state government or public sector environments (highly regarded)
